Desert Orchid
More affectionately known as ‘Dessie’, the gallant grey achieved iconic status in national hunt racing winning ‘King George VI Chase’ a legendary four times and a triple win for the ‘Gainsborough Chase’. After retiring in 1991, he took his summer holidays with his owners in Ab Kettleby, still spending his winters here at whitsbury with David Elsworth. When David left whitsbury after 25 years he took Dessert Orchid with him to Newmarket staying there until he passed on 13th November 2006 .
