We’re just down the lane from the famous racing stables, home to some national hunt winners. Chat to one of our jockey regulars and hear stories about old residents like Desert Orchid (who re-opened our pub after refurbishment!)
Walking or cycling is a must round these parts. The beautiful Cranborne Chase is just past the Downlands that begin at the top of our lane and our village lies within The New Forest national park. So, lots of prettiness right on our doorstep! We lie in a truly rural setting down lanes you’ll want to leave a bread trail on to get home!
Whitsbury Manor Stud: The stud consists of 550 acres of post and rail paddocks and 165 boxes. There is a main central foaling yard, covering yard, stallion boxes and paddocks. The yard for maiden and barren mares consists of two barns, a horse walker and all-weather wood chip paddocks. There is also a totally separate isolation yard of 18 boxes.
Apart from the main breeding facilities is a 25 box yearling yard. This has its own horse walker, lunging rings and 150 acres of paddocks. The stud is still expanding and each year new paddocks are being added from the 1,500 acre farm and dairy.
A host of successful stallions have been housed at the stud including Ballymoss, Distant Relative, Young Generation, Averti and Cadeaux Genereux. The latest arrival, Refuse To Bend who relocated to Whitsbury for the 2010 breeding season, is to stand alongside Avonbridge, Compton Place and Sakhee’s Secret.
